Our Family-Building Journey

My name is Kirstie Smith, and I am 29 years old, living in Pollak Park Springs, Gauteng. My journey has been incredibly challenging, and I want to share my story in the hope that it resonates with others who may find themselves in similar circumstances.

I am a single mother to my beautiful 4-year-old daughter, and I also care for my 54-year-old mother, who lives with a disability. Recently, I made the difficult decision to leave an abusive household. It was not just about finding safety for myself but also about creating a better environment for my daughter and my mother. I want to protect them and give them the love and security they deserve.

As the sole provider for my family, I face significant challenges. My mother’s disability limits her ability to contribute physically or mentally to our household, leaving me to shoulder the responsibility. I am currently unemployed, which adds to the weight of our situation. Each day, I worry about how to provide for my little girl and ensure that my mother has what she needs.

Every moment spent with my daughter is precious, and I strive to create joyful experiences for her, despite the difficulties we face. I want her to grow up feeling loved and secure, knowing that she is the center of my world. I hope to find stability so that I can support my family and offer my daughter a brighter future.

The funds from this grant would greatly assist us in navigating these tough times. It would provide us with the means to meet our basic needs and allow me to focus on finding employment without the constant worry of financial instability. My hope is to build a life where we can thrive together, moving beyond survival and into a place of safety and happiness.
