My Journey to Motherhood: A Dream Worth Fighting For
Organised by Joy Martinez · November 2, 2026

Motherhood has been one of the greatest blessings and deepest parts of my life. I became a mother at a young age, and my journey has been filled with extraordinary love, sacrifice, joy, and also unimaginable loss.
At just 19, I experienced the heartbreak of losing my first daughter, Avril, who was born extremely prematurely at approximately 24 weeks. She weighed just 1 pound and 4 ounces. Although her time with me was brief, she forever changed my heart and my understanding of motherhood. Her memory remains a part of me every single day. My journey continued, and I was blessed with two more children whom I love beyond words.
As the years passed, I never lost the desire to experience motherhood again. At 40, my husband and I began our IVF journey, hoping to welcome another precious child into our family. This was not an easy or inexpensive decision. We invested our savings, our time, our prayers, and so much hope into making this dream possible.
Through IVF, we were fortunate enough to create four embryos, which are currently frozen and waiting for the possibility of transfer. Two of our embryos reached the day-four developmental stage, progressing especially quickly, which our fertility team found remarkable. These four embryos represent so much hope for us.
Unfortunately, changes in insurance coverage and financial circumstances forced us to postpone our planned embryo transfer. Although I have medical insurance that would cover prenatal care and pregnancy, fertility treatment itself is not covered. The estimated cost of completing our frozen embryo transfer, including the associated expenses, is more than $5,000.
At this stage of my life, I am 43 years old, and I understand that time is precious. My greatest desire is still to carry a pregnancy, give birth, and experience the blessing of raising another child. I dream of watching another little one grow, surrounded by the love of their siblings and extended family.
I am also navigating significant personal and financial changes, which have made it difficult to fund this final step independently. I am not asking for someone to make this journey easy. I am simply asking for an opportunity to complete something that we have worked, prayed, and sacrificed so much to achieve.
My faith has carried me through some of life’s most difficult seasons. I believe that even when circumstances seem impossible, there is still room for hope.
Receiving a fertility grant would mean more than financial assistance. It would give me an opportunity to pursue a dream that has remained in my heart for years and bring me one step closer to the possibility of welcoming another child.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my story and for helping families like mine keep hope alive. Your generosity could make a life-changing difference in my journey to motherhood and saving my precious embryos.
