Carol & Corey's IVF Journey
Organised by Carol Boothe · September 16, 2026

My partner had a heart and lung transplant in august 2022. There was a very real chance that he wouldn't make it. We had to fight for him to be put on the list. He survived and has surprised doctors every step of the way. After transplant we found out his heart issues were caused by a genetic conditon called emery dreifuss muscular dystrophy. One year after transplant he was diagnosed with post transplant lymphoma and had to do chemotherapy. It was hard but he survived that too. Before chemotherapy we froze sperm just in case. His count is still low and I'm struggling with regulating my cycles. We have been together 8 years. He is 4 years post transplant and doing amazing. We have always wanted a family and thankfully we have a chance together. He survived and has a second chance to live a full life. I want nothing more than to raise a family together and see him get to be the best father.
How we'll use the funds: This grant would pay for treatments. Whatever we are allowed to put this money towards we would use it as soon as possible for that. We have been trying for years and continue to struggle. If we are able to go through with IVF we will also do genetic testing to make sure our children don't go through what we went through. Corey is the first member of his family to find out about this genetic condition. His grandfather died of his third heart attack at 35 and his uncle died at 19 of a heart attack. We want to prevent this from continuing on if we can.
