Bourne for Parenthood

Organised by Lisa Bourne · November 1, 2023

For over five challenging years, we've been on a journey to fulfill our deepest desire of becoming parents. We've faced numerous obstacles, including surgery on my ovaries, several outpatient procedures, countless blood draws, multiple ultrasounds to monitor progress, and the heart-wrenching experience of a miscarriage in July of 2023 and then 2 chemical pregnancies in 2024. We also experienced 2 miscarriages during IVF in 2025 that left us shaken.

While we've known about my PCOS diagnosis throughout this entire journey, it's only recently that we discovered potential thyroid issues as an additional hurdle to overcome.

It took us a long time to consider IVF; we were in denial that we wouldn't be able to get pregnant on our own. We've sought the expertise of several care teams along the way, and we're now under the care of the highly acclaimed Dr. Jarrett of Indiana Fertility Institute. Each round of fertility treatment has involved blood draws, multiple ultrasounds to monitor progress, and thousands of dollars in medication.

Asking for help is not easy, but we are incredibly fortunate to have a supportive community that wants to rally around us. Your generous contributions will not only help us cover the costs of IVF treatment but will also provide the hope and strength we need to keep moving forward on our path to parenthood. With your support, we can't wait to begin our IVF journey and share the love and joy our baby will bring into our lives. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

Rainbow baby! 🌈

Life update, because so many of you have walked this road with us. Last year held more loss than we ever expected. We experienced two miscarriages, and they changed us in ways that are hard to put into words. Grief has a way of stretching time, faith, and hope all at once. Today, we are so grateful to share that we are expecting our rainbow baby and are joyfully looking toward this spring. This pregnancy has been filled with both deep gratitude and tender caution, because pregnancy after loss carries both hope and fear side by side. As we prepare to welcome this baby, our hope is to have our remaining medical debt behind us before their arrival. IVF and pregnancy after loss come with ongoing care and expenses, and truly, any little bit helps move the needle. The support we have received through this fundraiser has meant so much more than financial help. It has been encouragement, prayer, and the reminder that we are not walking this journey alone. Thank you for standing with us, for believing with us, and for loving us so well. We are incredibly grateful for this community and cannot wait to meet this sweet little miracle this spring.

A Bittersweet Chapter

With heavy hearts, we wanted to share that we recently lost our sweet baby, lovingly nicknamed Sugar. After years of infertility and a long road through IVF, we were overjoyed to finally be pregnant. For a few beautiful weeks, we carried hope and life. Sadly, our journey took a turn, and we experienced a miscarriage at 8 weeks. This loss has been heartbreaking—but it has also deepened our resolve to keep going. Sugar will always be part of our story, and we’re holding onto faith that this isn’t the end. Your support—whether through prayer, kind words, or donation—means more than we can say. It’s helping us continue our fight for the family we dream of. Thank you for standing with us in both the joy and the grief. We’re not giving up. With love and gratitude, Lisa & AJ
